Fuel Specialties

Performance and compliance additives for Indonesia’s mandatory biodiesel blending programme, older engine fleets, remote storage conditions, and fuel supply chain integrity, across diesel, gasoline, aviation, and marine applications.

Issues & Solutions

Indonesia’s mandatory B35 biodiesel programme, its geographically dispersed industrial base, and a high proportion of older engine and machinery fleets combine to create fuel challenges that are distinct from other markets in the region.

Mandatory Biodiesel Blending (B35 / B40)

Indonesia’s government-mandated FAME blending programme, currently B35, moving toward B40, introduces fatty acid methyl esters that are prone to oxidative degradation, cold flow thickening, microbial growth, and injector fouling. Engines not designed for high-FAME blends experience deposit formation and shortened maintenance intervals without additive support.

Older Engine Fleets & Deposit Formation

A large share of Indonesia’s commercial vehicle, marine, and generator fleet runs on older engine architectures with tighter cetane and lubricity requirements than modern common-rail designs. Sub-specification diesel causes incomplete combustion, injector coking, liner wear, and higher emissions, all accelerated by the transition to biodiesel blends.

Remote Storage & Stability

Mining camps, plantation facilities, and island communities in Papua, Kalimantan, and NTT store diesel for weeks or months in above-ground tanks exposed to tropical heat and humidity. These conditions accelerate FAME phase separation, oxidative gum formation, water ingress, and microbial proliferation, rendering fuel off-specification before it reaches the engine.

Fuel Quality Verification in Remote Areas

Substandard or adulterated diesel reaching remote outer islands and mining sites causes injector damage, premature filter plugging, and non-compliance with Pertamina specification requirements. Dye and marker programmes enable rapid field identification of fuel grade and supply chain integrity without laboratory analysis.
